MASTER CLASS
About
Join us for a masterclass by Grammy-nominated Varijashree Venugopal, a pioneering artist of this generation known for blending Carnatic traditions and global music. The participants will learn to navigate various world music genres using the Indian Swara/Sargam system.
Understanding the connection between Indian and Western music notations is key to fostering cross-cultural musical dialogue. This session will feature guided listening exercises, where different genres of music will be analyzed and transcribed using Indian notation. Facilitated in a hybrid mode, the masterclass is open to both vocalists and instrumentalists from Indian and Western traditions. The session will also feature Vivek Santosh on keys, enriching the learning experience.
This program is part of IME’s Women’s History Month — a festival curated to honor and amplify the vital, yet often under-recognized contributions of women in shaping India’s music landscape.
