Lecture demonstration by Tomokuni Terukina

The Indian Music Experience, in collaboration with Japan Habba 2023 and the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IJCCI), proudly presents a lecture demonstration featuring the esteemed Ryukyuan classical musician, Tomokuni Terukina. Hailing from Okinawa, Japan, Terukina is widely recognized as a master Sanshin artist affiliated with the prestigious Afuso-Ryu Musical School.

The Sanshin, a traditional three-stringed instrument, holds a profound significance within Ryukyuan culture, spanning several centuries. This remarkable art form has been diligently transmitted across generations, with Terukina himself having acquired his expertise under the tutelage of his late father, Choichi Terukina. Revered as a Sanshin grandmaster and a distinguished Living National Treasure of Japan, his father’s profound influence has shaped Terukina’s extraordinary musical journey.
