Folk Music from the Desert
About
Manganiyars of Rajasthan are a hereditary community of professional musicians from the villages of Barmer, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer in the desert areas of Western Rajasthan. The Manganiars and the Langas have a vast repertoire of folk music integral to their way of life and social systems.
Join us at Indian Music Experience Museum for an evening of traditional Rajasthani music and dance featuring a group of 8 musicians and dancers led by Sardar Khan, a senior Langa guru of Barnawa Jageer and Sawai Khan, a young Khartal player of Barna Jaisalmer who has collaborated with various world music maestros. They will be accompanied by Deu Khan on vocals, Sikander Khan on Sindhi Sarangi & Algoza, and Samder Khan on Dholak. This music group will be accompanied by a three-member Kalbelia team including two dancers and one musician.
This program is presented in partnership with BIC, Bangalnatak, UNESCO & Rajasthan Tourism.
