A World Music Concert by Surabhi Ensemble
Indian Music Experience invites you to a special year end concert by Surabhi Ensemble, an America based World Music band. Surabhi Ensemble is an award-winning Chicago-USA-based world music band that has travelled across the USA, Europe, Asia, and Africa sharing genre-bending original music soundscapes with the intent of establishing deeper cross-cultural connections, to fulfil their vision #liveasonefamily across the globe. Each ensemble member is passionate about peace through music as a real possibility.
The ensemble’s music encompasses Carnatic Ragas & Rhythms, Spanish Flamenco, middle Eastern Maqam, West African Tama drumming, and Mexican folk music. These eclectic music sounds are beautifully interwoven with movement: from traditional Bharatanatyam to Rajastani Folk dance, middle eastern dabke dance, and Spanish flamenco dance.
Spreading the message of peace through music, Surabhi Ensemble will bring original music and dance presentations to IME along with regionally popular pieces to Bengaluru, as part of their India tour.
Artists of the Surabhi Ensemble
Surabhi Ensemble is a confluence of global musical virtuosity and dance traditions. Featuring Saraswathi Ranganathan (Veena, Vocals) from Mysuru and Dhananjay Kunte (Tabla) from Pune, the ensemble blends the depth of Indian classical music with Carlo Basile’s (Acoustic Guitar) Spanish Flamenco and Ronnie Malley’s (Oud, Vocals) Palestinian Maqam. Mexican folk echoes through Juan Dies (Mexican Guitar, Vocals), while Robert Garrett (Percussion) and Greg Nergaard (Bass) bring Flamenco, Jazz, and Western influences. The rhythms are enriched by Senegalese Tama drummer Massamba Diop, and Carnatic percussion by Sai Raghavan (Mridangam, Konnakol) from Chennai. The visual splendor is heightened by the dynamic movements of Kinnari Vora (Bharatanatyam, Rajasthani folk, contemporary), Leticia Aravena (Spanish Flamenco), Lorena Iniguez (Mexican folk), and Anita Louise Darwish (Dabke, Belly Dance).
