Masterclass in Hindustani Classical Gharanas by Pt. Nagaraj Rao

About

In the Indian Subcontinent, Hindustani Music has a rich tradition of Gharanas (from the Hindi word ‘Ghar’, meaning home) that are communities of performers, each characterized by a distinct musical style.

The Indian Music Experience Museum invites you for a masterclass in Hindustani classical Gharanas by Pt. Nagaraj Rao Havaldar. In this program, Dr. Havaldar will introduce participants to the Gharana system, and dive deeper into the Gharans he comes from — Kirana and Jaipur Atrauli, known for their intricate and ornate use of sargam, taans, layakari and jod ragas. Participants will not only learn select compositions from the two Gharanas but also have a discussion around them.
