Born to sing
About
IME Museum invites you to a screening of ‘Born to Sing’, a documentary film on Mirasans of Punjab directed by Shikha Jhingan
The film nostalgically traverses the unique tradition of the Punjab, in which women singers of the Muslim Mirasi community (Mirasans) cry on death, bring laughter at birth and marriage and bridge communities. Today, children of Mirasans struggle to survive with dwindling patronage and are moving out from family space to public space.
This program is part of our ‘Women’s History Month’ programming. Throughout the month, we will bring to you a series of programs that shine light on lesser-known narratives of women from music history of India.
The screening will be followed by a moderated discussion with filmmaker Shikha Jhingan.
