Orange Butterflies & Aqua Sequins
About
We are pleased to present Orange Butterflies & Aqua Sequins.
In this performance Sanjukta Wagh combines theater, music and dance to weave a tapestry of women’s voices across time, cultures and languages by stringing together works of poets like Noor Jahan Sarvat, Kobita Sinha, Ntozake Shange, Bahinabai Chowdhari, Soyarabai, and Arundhati Subramaniam. Their poems tease and prod, churn and swirl, occupy space, celebrate dreams and desires, faith and faithlessness.
Sanjukta Wagh is the founder of an interdisciplinary initiative called Beej in Mumbai which is engaged in exploring the creative process and improvisation, alternative methods of classical dance pedagogy and collaborative performance. Her work is greatly inspired by literature across languages and especially the Bhakti poets.
This program is co-presented with BIC and is part of IME’s ‘Women’s History Month’ programming. Throughout the month, we will bring to you a series of programs that shine light on women’s contribution to music and the arts at large.
