International Rhythm Course

About

As we step into the new year, IME is pleased to be hosting the second edition of the International Rhythm Course Residency in collaboration with the HKU University of Art Utrecht (Netherlands), from 8th to 13th January. Centered on the Carnatic approach to rhythm, the IRC residency at IME is designed to allow knowledge sharing and cultural exchange with respect to music, for both international participants and local musicians. The residency consists of workshops, lectures, musical collaborations, and participation in local cultural practices, culminating in concerts reflecting the potential of shared musical approaches between the East and the West.

To mark the culmination of the program, on 13th January all stars jazz musicians who are part of the International Rhythm Course, will be in concert with some of the country’s finest Carnatic Classical musicians from Bangalore, namely,

Ned McGowan (Flute and Contrabass Flute)
Lydie Thonnard (Flute and Piccolo)
Gilles Carlier (Piano and Clarinet)
Laurent Peckels (Bass)
Dr. Suma Sudhindra (Veena)
BC Manjunath (Mridangam and Konnakol)
Karthik Mani (Percussion)

Please join us on Saturday, 13th January at 6 PM at the Indian Music Experience Museum (terrace) to experience a coming together of the best Western and Indian improvised music.
