Community Fri-YAY is now Shukravara Katte
A celebration of music, community and belonging the first Friday of every month
What if your favourite museum was also your neighbourhood’s favourite place to gather?
Shukravara Katte (formerly Community Fri-YAY!) is IME’s monthly invitation to experience the museum as more than a place to simply visit but a space to meet, create, rehearse, share ideas, spend time with family and friends, or simply enjoy the company of others in a welcoming cultural space.
On the first Friday of every month, entry to the museum is free, encouraging Bengaluru’s families, young people, senior citizens, volunteers, neighbourhood groups, and community partners to make the museum their own.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful afternoon surrounded by music, a creative space to connect with your community, or a chance to discover something new, there’s always a place for you at IME’s Shukravara Katte!
This Month at Shukravara Katte:
12 Noon: Listening Session with Thomas Lea Clarke
Thomas Lea Clarke is a sound artist and musician from Luxembourg and is the current artist in residence at IME. While here he will be researching sonic culture in Bangalore and trying to learn as much as he can about the sounds and music of the city. This Shukravara Katte, Thomas invites everyone to an informal hang at IME’s Filmy Geet Gallery as he shares some of his favourite pieces of Indian music! Thomas will also discuss the stories of how these songs entered his life. In turn, members of the audience are invited to come prepared with some of their favourite music to share and discuss too.
2 PM onward: Board Games Katte with Beneathatree
Beneathatree is a budding community initiative that makes research, coding and games more accessible to everyone. Facilitators from Beneathatree will hold space in IME’s Melting Pot Gallery for anyone interested in playing or learning about board games. From age-old favourites like Chess and Ludo to contemporary board games like Catan and Wingspan, there is room for everyone to sit and play a game or two.
4:00 PM: Free Rudra Veena Concert with artist Murali Mohan Gowda
If you have never witnessed the Rudra Veena being played, here’s your chance as classical musician Murali Mohan Gowda takes over IME’s Instrument Gallery. Watch Murali explore rhythm, blend ragas and give us a glimpse into the history and legacy of this iconic instrument.
5:00 PM: All-language Antakshari
Baithe baithe kya kare… karna hai kuch kaam? Aao end the day at IME with an all-ages round of Antakshari facilitated by IME Volunteers! Singing in all Indian languages welcome. Come in a group or find someone at the museum to sing your heart out with and maybe even win some museum goodies.
Bring Your Community to IME
Shukravara Katte (formerly Community Fri-YAY!) is also an open invitation to community groups, hobby clubs, neighbourhood associations, music circles, artists, volunteers, and cultural collectives to activate the museum through informal gatherings, rehearsals, pop-up workshops, volunteer-led activities, discussions, and neighbourhood showcases.

- Shukravara Katte (formerly Community Fri-YAY!) offers free general admission to the museum as part of IME’s commitment to increasing access and encouraging community participation.
- Educational programmes, guided tours, facilitated visits, workshops, and other museum staff-led experiences continue to be offered on a paid basis and must be booked in advance.
- Schools, educational institutions, corporates, and organised groups are welcome to explore the museum independently during Shukravara Katte or book guided experiences, learning programmes, workshops, or venue rentals through IME’s regular services at applicable rates.
